The Day Our Lives Changed
I love stories.
Growing up we'd just make up stories together. Someone would come up with one thing and then the next person would just make up what happened next. Sound familiar? If not, let me tell you about D&D. But...no, that's another story for another time.

On a random Sunday evening, I set up a brutal encounter for my D&D party. The burgeoning party encountered some wolves. Outnumbered they were in the fight of their lives and I was rolling very well.
VRRRT.
Huh. A text message from Susan. She doesn't usually text me when I'm DM'ing. That was when she shared that she needed to take a pregnancy test. I was skeptical, we'd been down this path before so I assumed it was the same. Except this time it was positive.
Of course, the first place my mind went was to google "what causes a false positive on a pregnancy test". She waited for me to come home before taking a second one just to be sure, and not 30 seconds later the little + sign shows up.
Still, home tests are wrong every 1 out of 100 attempts. Two in a row might be a little suspicious but not statistically impossible. My logical conclusion was that we should do a blood test just to rule it out, just to be safe.
It's hard to explain the range of emotions I felt when we saw the results just a few minutes later. Yup, our family of two was about to become a family of three. Still somewhat thunderstruck by the weight of this implausible thing that somehow happened, we got a bite to eat. Who happened to be parked right behind us, but our former neighbors Phil and Jen. I was dying to say something but it was still so early - but that feeling was a portent of what the next month was like!
This journey has long stretches that feel so surreal. Our little family has been just the two of us for so many years. The change still feels hard to comprehend, but we love that little guy so much. I hope and pray (and pray a little more) that he will be healthy, happy, and whole.
So we thank you for joining us in this little journey of life, and the winding paths that are ahead. We'll see you very soon little chipuste, may you shine your own light on the world.
